CCHASM stands for Chesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry. This is a non-profit organization that serves individuals and families in Chesterfield-Colonial Heights who have found themselves in an economic crisis. CCHASM provides emergency financial/food assistance, Thanksgiving meal packages, career clothes closet and emergency disaster relief for this area. These meetings are held each week to support people in our community who are active in the job market. If you have lost your job, want to switch careers, or are seeking a supportive job-networking group, we can help! Please join us every Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the church's fellowship hall. We're also part of the Virginia Career Network on MeetUp.com. Food Pantry

This ministry supports families sent to us through CCHASM - young single mothers earning only minimum wage, fathers who have been laid off from their jobs now bringing no income to the family, older grandparents on fixed incomes, perhaps having custody of This ministry supports families sent to us through CCHASM - young single mothers earning only minimum wage, fathers who have been laid off from their jobs nowgrandchildren, homeless individuals…and the list goes on. The Food Pantry’s support comes through food items and monetary contributions from our congregation. Food Pantry volunteers put away grocery donations, prepare the bags with groceries, and are at the church on Thursday evenings to receive the CCHASM families.

Jail and Prison Ministry

This ministry works with Riverside regional jail, offering Bible study, prayer, and biblical counsel to serve those in prison. Women work with women, men work with men. If you are interested in helping please contact Carol Koon.

Operation Christmas Child

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. The mission of Perrymont Middle School is to educate the over-aged, non-traditional student through acceleration and remediation in Math and Language Arts. They are committed to providing academic and social skills to prepare their students for success in high school and in life. Chester United Methodist Church assists the students and staff of the school in achieving their mission through volunteer opportunities in the library, school store, and assisting with luncheons. Members of the congregation donate school supplies, assist the teachers with tasks such as copying materials, and tutor students.

Appalachia Service Project
|
|
|
|
Appalachia Service Project is a mission trip to Appalachia (Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky) to work with economically stressed families to make their homes safer, warmer, and drier. Skilled and non-skilled volunteers are welcomed to participate. Mission trips are generally in the summer for one week.

BRANCHES

This is an exciting ministry in Florida City, Florida. BRANCHES seeks to reach children, youth, and their families in a very needy area and is led by KIm K. Torres, a United Methodist missionary supported by Chester Church. Our aim is to have an ongoing partnership between Branches and Chester Church, with a mission team of youth and adults going to Florida City in 2010. This ministry plans the yearly church picnic which provides fun and fellowship for the congregation.

This ministry contacts church members who have experienced a death in the family and provides a meal or funeral reception, as the family requests.

|
|
Connections sessions are designed to help prospective members learn more about the church, and assist new members in becoming assimilated into the church family.

This ministry organizes groups of four couples or 6-8 singles who meet monthly for dinner for 4 months. Each couple or person hosts the dinner once in their home.

To welcome new people to the church, we provide gift bags containing candy, goodies, and information about the church.
|

Greeters are the first impression many people receive of our church. They are stationed inside the Atrium and Narthex to welcome guests and members to either of the three Sunday services and for special events of the church.

The leisure ministry organizes the church softball and volleyball teams, recruiting coaches and players. They also organize other recreational activities throughout the year.

This ministry recruits volunteers to provides meals to members who are ill or recuperating from surgery. They also organize volunteers to provide transportation for members who need rides to doctors' appointments.

Within a congregation, a parish nurse helps parishioners (which can be individuals, families, or the entire congregation) achieve health, healing, and wholeness by implementing health promotion and disease prevention practices. For more information, please contact Elizabeth Ford.

This ministry meets weekly to knit prayer shawls that are given to our high school graduates, ill members, or members in crisis.
